Welcome Tim Hilterman and Jake Buckwalter!

Welcome Tim Hilterman and Jake Buckwalter!

In August, we were pleased to welcome two new Investment Advisors, Tim Hilterman, CFP®, and Jake Buckwalter, to our Investment Advisory Team at Whitcomb & Hess.

Tim Hilterman comes to us from Merrill Lynch in Mansfield, where he served as a financial advisor. He is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), and holds the Series 7, Series 6, and Series 63 registrations.  Tim earned his MBA at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida, and holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Grove City College in Pennsylvania.  Tim will serve as an Investment Advisor at Whitcomb & Hess.

Tim is actively involved with the Richland County Chamber of Commerce and Westwood Alliance Church. He is a board member of the Richland Academy of the Arts and Richland Pregnancy Services.  He is a Top 10 Under 40 in Richland County Honoree and was awarded the Community Hero Award from the Richland Young Professionals in 2016.

Tim founded the Spherion Mid-Ohio 13er, a half marathon and 5k race, to help combat drug addiction in central Ohio. Tim ran the half marathon—in full fireman’s gear—and recruited several Whitcomb & Hess team members to run with him!  Tim and his wife Abby live in Lexington with their 4 children.

Jake Buckwalter joined the Whitcomb & Hess team in August, and will serve as an Investment Advisor. He was previously employed by Fidelity Investments in Cincinnati, where he worked as a 401k participant guidance advisor since 2013.  Jake holds the Series 7, Series 6, and Series 63 registrations, and is interested in earning his CFP® or CFA designation soon.  Jake is a graduate of Tiffin University, where he studied Finance.  He recently moved back to the area and currently resides in Wooster.

Let’s get to know Tim and Jake!

What led you to Whitcomb & Hess?

Tim: My faith defines me.  Whitcomb & Hess’s first two core values are trust in God and exceeding the expectations of our clients.  I feel right at home here.

Jake: The culture here. There is an atmosphere within the firm that is unique to the industry today. The emphasis that the firm puts on treating clients as individuals as opposed to just clients is refreshing to see in today’s environment. Another difference is the team atmosphere that is embodied in the firm’s culture, from the leadership on down—everyone unified to drive better outcomes for clients.

What do you like best about working in the financial industry?

Jake: The opportunity to meet someone wherever they are financially and attempt to put them in a better place is what keeps me going. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and of varying financial goals.

Tim: After working as a Lead Engineer for 12 years, I absolutely love the opportunity to help individuals and families find peace and security in a well-developed financial plan.  I especially enjoy the opportunities I have to work with multiple generations.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Tim: Spend as much time as possible with my beautiful bride and our 4 children.  They grow so fast!  I also love to run and hope to eventually complete a full ironman triathlon.

Jake: I enjoy staying physically active. Much of my free time is spent outside golfing, biking, hiking and just generally enjoying the fresh air.  I also have 2 nieces and a nephew that are good at entertaining if I need it.

What is something surprising about you?

Jake: I need 4-5 cups of coffee a day to function!  I also was a track athlete—I qualified for state in high school and nationals in college as a member of the 4×100 meter relay.

Tim: I’m working on one kidney.  A few years ago, I qualified as transplant match for a young girl that didn’t have any kidneys.  I’m thankful that God allowed a piece of me to give her a chance at a normal childhood.
